Agenda Item: International Cooperation in Addressing Post-Chernobyl Problems

Year: 1986
Established on July 29, 1957, under the United Nations, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) aims to promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology for the benefit of humanity and to contribute to the development of nations. It facilitates the sustainable transfer of nuclear science and technology to developing countries.
Chernobyl, a nuclear power plant constructed between 1970 and 1977 in Pripyat, Soviet Union (now Ukraine), experienced a catastrophic accident in 1986 during a test. This event released harmful materials into the atmosphere and unprecedented levels of radiation.
Over three days, participants will discuss the ways of ‘International Cooperation in Addressing Post-Chernobyl Problems’ and collaborate to draft a resolution paper with a common solution.
